A newly published ranking of the 20 greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time has placed Juan Manuel Fangio at the very top.

The five-time world champion dominated Formula 1 in the 1950s and remains one of the sport’s most respected figures thanks to his remarkable success with several different teams.

Second place went to Michael Schumacher, the seven-time world champion who led Ferrari to a period of dominance in the early 2000s.

In third was Lewis Hamilton, who equals Schumacher’s seven world titles and holds records for the most race wins and pole positions in Formula 1 history. Jim Clark was ranked fourth, followed by Ayrton Senna in fifth and Alain Prost in sixth.

Rounding out the top five are Jim Clark in fourth, Ayrton Senna in fifth, and Alain Prost in sixth.

Among current drivers, Max Verstappen was ranked seventh, underlining the impact he has already made during his career.

Other notable modern drivers included Sebastian Vettel in 13th place, Fernando Alonso in 15th, and Nico Rosberg in 18th.

The ranking is, of course, subjective and likely to spark debate among Formula 1 fans, particularly when comparing drivers from very different eras. Nevertheless, Fangio’s place at the top highlights the lasting legacy of one of the sport’s true pioneers.
