Jorge Martin is expected to miss the MotoGP test at Sepang as he continues his recovery from a very difficult 2025 season full of injuries.

The former world champion has had one of the hardest years of his career, and many of his problems started at Sepang itself last year. During pre-season testing there, Martin crashed and broke his right hand. He also suffered several fractures in his left foot. This immediately put him on the back foot before the season even began.

Just when things seemed bad enough, Martin had another serious accident during training just before the first race in Thailand. This time, he suffered a complex fracture to his left arm, damaging the radius and scaphoid bones in his wrist. He also injured his heel and ribs, making recovery even slower and more painful.

After months of hard work, Martin finally returned to racing in Qatar. However, his comeback did not last long. A heavy crash during the Grand Prix left him with eleven broken ribs and a collapsed lung. This was his most serious injury of the year and forced him out again.

Later in the season, Martin returned once more, only to suffer another setback. At the start of the sprint race in Motegi, he collided with his Aprilia team-mate Marco Bezzecchi and broke his collarbone. The injury was badly displaced and required careful treatment.

Although Martin did ride at the final race of the season in Valencia and also took part in the post-season test, reports from Spain say he is still not fully fit. According to El Periódico and Motorsport.com, Martin had two follow-up surgeries in December. One was to fix an ongoing problem with the scaphoid bone in his left wrist. The other surgery was more serious and linked to complications from the collarbone injury he suffered in Japan.

Neither Aprilia nor Martin have officially confirmed this, but it is widely expected that he will not take part in the three-day Sepang test. If that happens, Martin will only have the two-day test in Buriram, Thailand, in mid-February to prepare for the new season. The first race of the year will also take place at the same circuit at the end of February.

Martin would be the second rider missing from the Sepang test. Earlier this month, Gresini Racing’s rookie Fermin Aldeguer broke his femur in a training accident.

At Aprilia’s recent team launch, Martin sounded positive and said he believed his winter work had helped him a lot. He said he was confident of being fully fit by the first race in Thailand. However, Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola later suggested that Martin still needs more time to recover fully and is not yet 100% physically.

While Martin struggled, Marco Bezzecchi had a standout year for Aprilia, winning three grands prix and three sprint races. He also finished third in the world championship, the best result ever for the Italian manufacturer.

Martin, who failed in an attempt to leave his Aprilia contract early, does not currently have a deal in place for the 2027 season. For now, his main focus remains on recovery, fitness and finally enjoying a fresh start after a very tough year.
