The first free practice of the 2026 MotoGP season kicked off immediately, as the riders wasted no time getting on track. This session is only 45 minutes long, and it's for riders to get used to the track. Fermín Aldeguer is still recovering from his injury, and in his place was Michele Pirro.

The first measured laps were in the 1:32 to 1:30 time range. But some riders found improvement, moving into the 1:29 time range. Leading the session so far was Marco Bezzecchi, with Pedro Acosta and Jorge Martín behind him.

Marc Márquez, coming back from an injury, had decent laps, but it was the third sector where he was slower, which cost him improvement at the very front. Still, he managed to break into the top 10. Meanwhile, his teammate Francesco Bagnaia was putting in a decent effort, improving ahead of his teammate.

The first yellow flag came 10 minutes in, as Jorge Martín crashed out at Turn 12. The rider was okay, and he immediately went back to the box.

Meanwhile, Yamaha, with its new engine, was not doing well. All four of their riders were at the bottom of the practice standings, almost two seconds slower than the others. Fabio Quartararo was the best rider from Yamaha, as he managed to be in 16th position. Joining the struggling order at the back were both KTM riders, Maverick Viñales and Enea Bastianini, in 17th and 19th place.

With 15 minutes into the session, all the riders were in the pits. So far, the top 10 looked as follows: Bezzecchi, Di Giannantonio, Martín, Acosta, M. Márquez, Bagnaia, Ogura, Morbidelli, A. Márquez, Fernández.

Diogo Moreira, one of the rookies this season, was still getting used to the MotoGP bike, but he still managed to be in 14th place, one second behind Bezzecchi in first.

With 15 minutes left, the standings remained the same. Fabio Quartararo was trying to improve his position, but he was unable to do so, as he was struggling with the bike.

After that, the riders didn’t risk as much, as this was only FP1, so they were focusing on getting used to the track conditions. In the final minutes, all the riders were on track, trying for a late improvement. However, Alex Rins managed to improve his time, going up to 13th place, and he was the best Yamaha rider. Ai Ogura was another rider who managed to improve, as he jumped to 4th place, surprising everyone.

And with the chequered flag out, the riders finished their last laps. The top 10 finished as follows: Bezzecchi, Di Giannantonio, Martín, Ogura, Acosta, M. Márquez, Bagnaia, Morbidelli, A. Márquez, Marini.
