According to the latest reports, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are exploring the possibility of owning a MotoGP team.
Guenther Steiner recently completed a major move into MotoGP, becoming the new CEO of Tech3 from 2026 after leading a consortium that purchased the French team. The former Haas Formula 1 team principal is the first big figure from F1 to cross over into MotoGP, and he has already begun working closely with KTM and Tech3’s staff.
Steiner believes MotoGP is at the start of a major growth period under Liberty Media, which has already transformed Formula 1 into a global success story. According to Autosport, thanks to this as well, now two other big names in the F1 world are looking into ownership in the series.
Lewis Hamilton is one of the most serious contenders. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, he has often taken to the track on superbikes in private sessions and even swapped rides with Valentino Rossi at Silverstone. Over the past year Hamilton has explored several ways to enter MotoGP, holding talks with KTM and Gresini, although those deals did not go ahead.
His representatives have since continued discussions with a number of private teams, and he is said to have the support of TWG Motorsports, the group behind Cadillac’s Formula 1 entry. For Hamilton, MotoGP represents both a personal passion and a chance to join a championship that is preparing for global expansion under Liberty Media.
Max Verstappen is also being linked with a move into MotoGP ownership. The Dutch champion has built his own motorsport structure through the Verstappen.com Racing team, and his interest in motorcycle racing is well known.
While his manager Raymond Vermeulen has played down the chances of an immediate purchase, he has admitted that Verstappen is enthusiastic about MotoGP and has looked into possibilities. Reports suggest his representatives have already made approaches to teams such as LCR, though nothing concrete has been agreed.
With Tech3 already secured by Steiner and the five factory teams not for sale, the focus is on the remaining independent outfits. Both Hamilton and Verstappen are believed to have made contact with these teams to register their interest.
