Portimão is getting ready to welcome motorbike lovers for Acelera Portimão, a free community event taking place at 14:20 on Thursday, just before the Portuguese Grand Prix at the Algarve International Circuit. Fans can enjoy autograph sessions, exhibitions, giveaways, and a special rider parade along the waterfront, marking what could be Miguel Oliveira’s farewell to MotoGP.
A big motorcycle event is coming to Portimão this week. The event, called Acelera Portimão (which means Accelerate Portimão), will take place at 14:20 on Thursday, just before the Portuguese Grand Prix at the Algarve International Circuit, which is happening from 7 to 9 November.
The event is free to everyone, and the whole MotoGP community is invited to join in. According to the Municipality of Portimão, this is more than just a warm-up for the race. It is a celebration of the motorcycling spirit and a way to bring fans together right in the heart of the city.
Visitors can look forward to much more than just racing. There will be an autograph session and a special exhibition of cars and motorbikes, perfect for taking photos and enjoying the atmosphere. The Algarve International Circuit and several local promoters will be giving away free gifts, and the city council will also give away around 30 weekend passes.
One of the highlights of Acelera Portimão will be the rider parade along the Portimão waterfront, running from the Old Fish Market to Manuel Teixeira Gomes Square, also known as Casa Inglesa. The route is about 300 metres long. This year’s event will be especially emotional, as it will be the final appearance of Miguel Oliveira in MotoGP, the first and only Portuguese rider to have competed in this category. He is expected to continue racing in the Superbike World Championship starting from 2026.
With exciting fan activities and the chance to celebrate a national hero, Acelera Portimão promises to be a memorable event for everyone.
