Just days after the Miami Grand Prix, Alpine have announced that team principal Oliver Oakes has resigned from the position with immediate effect.
Oakes took over the role in July 2024 from Bruno Famin and helped the team finish the year on a high, securing sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship.
A former racing driver, Oakes became Karting World Champion in 2005 and later competed in junior single-seater series such as British F3 and GP3. He was once part of the Red Bull Junior Team but didn’t reach the top levels of the sport as a driver. In 2024, at the age of 36, he became one of the youngest team bosses in F1 history.
While leading Alpine, Oakes worked alongside experienced advisor Flavio Briatore, who will now take over his role, however, most likely only temporarily.
The official statement from Alpine reads:
“BWT Alpine Formula One Team announces that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his role as team principal.
“The team has accepted his resignation with immediate effect.
“As of today, Flavio Briatore will continue as executive advisor and will also be covering the duties previously performed by Oliver Oakes.
“The team would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since he joined last summer and for his contribution in helping the team secure sixth place in the 2024 constructors’ championship.
“The team will not be making any further comment.”
