Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli is preparing for its 2027 debut as MotoGP's official tyre supplier by testing new compounds at Spain’s Aragon Circuit. The summer test will involve riders from all five major manufacturers and marks a key milestone in Pirelli’s expanding role in global motorsport.
Italian tyre company Pirelli is preparing to test their new tyres they are creating for MotoGP. The test is planned to happen later this year in Spain, at the Aragon Circuit. This event is an important step as Pirelli prepares to become the official tyre supplier for MotoGP starting in 2027.
Right now, Michelin supplies tyres for MotoGP, but that will end after the 2026 season. Even though Michelin had hoped to stay longer, MotoGP organizers decided to use just one tyre brand for all of its racing classes, including Moto2, Moto3, and MotoE. And Pirelli has already begun supplying tyres to Moto2 and Moto3 in 2024, so this change continues according to plan.
At the Aragon test, Pirelli will let test riders from five manufacturers try out the new tyre compounds. The brands involved are Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Ducati, and Aprilia. The test is expected to happen after the Aragon Grand Prix on June 8 and the MotoGP testing day on June 9, though the exact date has not been confirmed yet.
Pirelli wants to collect a lot of data during this test to help improve their tyre design. This is just the first of several tests. More sessions are planned for 2026, where teams and riders will give feedback to help Pirelli fine-tune their final product.
However, not everyone in MotoGP is happy. While Pirelli is paying all costs for the 2025 test, it is expected that teams will have to pay their own costs for the 2026 test, which some teams may not have planned for in their budgets.
Yet even with some complaints, Pirelli's role in motorsport keeps growing. And by 2027, it will supply tyres for MotoGP, Formula 1, and World Superbike, making it one of the most important tyre brands in the world of racing.
