Marco Bezzecchi has successfully undergone surgery after breaking his left collarbone in a crash during the German MotoGP weekend. Aprilia is now hoping the Italian rider will recover in time to return for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Marco Bezzecchi has had successful surgery after breaking his left collarbone during the German MotoGP weekend.
The Italian rider crashed heavily in qualifying at the Sachsenring circuit. The accident caused a complete fracture of his left collarbone, forcing him to miss the rest of the German Grand Prix. He travelled back to Italy soon after the crash for an operation.
Aprilia has confirmed that the surgery was successful. The operation was carried out by specialist surgeon Dr Giuseppe Porcellini at the University Hospital of Sassuolo. Doctors repaired and stabilised the broken collarbone, and Bezzecchi has now started his recovery.
The team hopes Bezzecchi will be fit to race again at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone after the MotoGP summer break. However, Aprilia says they will continue to check his progress before making a final decision about his return.
The injury came at a difficult time for Bezzecchi. He was already dealing with pain after a heavy crash at Assen the previous weekend. Despite those problems, he still tried to compete in Germany before suffering another major accident.
Bezzecchi has been one of the leading riders this season and remains in the MotoGP title fight. Missing races could make his championship challenge more difficult, but the long summer break gives him extra time to recover before racing returns at Silverstone.
Everyone at Aprilia will now be hoping that Bezzecchi heals quickly and is ready to get back on his bike when the MotoGP season resumes in the United Kingdom.
