Suzuka, one of Formula 1’s most iconic circuits, is being resurfaced ahead of the 2026 Japanese Grand Prix.
The Suzuka Formula 1 circuit is undergoing changes to its track surface ahead of the 2026 Japanese Grand Prix, where it will host round three of the season. Suzuka is one of the most famous circuits in Formula 1 and has been a regular home of the Japanese Grand Prix for decades. Drivers and fans value the track for its fast corners, flowing layout and figure-of-eight design, which is unique in F1. Combined with often unpredictable weather, Suzuka has produced many dramatic moments over the years.
Work is currently taking place on the West Course of the circuit, which is fully closed due to resurfacing. This section includes the iconic Spoon Curve. A new layer of asphalt is being laid, which could make the track more difficult at first because of low grip. As more rubber builds up during the race weekend, grip levels should improve.
The Japanese Grand Prix will take place on 29 March 2026, with Max Verstappen arriving as the defending winner after his first Suzuka victory in 2025. The event will also celebrate Honda’s official return to Formula 1 as a power unit supplier, now working in partnership with Aston Martin.
