Max Verstappen reflected on a late mechanical failure that ended the #3 Mercedes team’s challenge for victory at the Nürburgring 24 Hours despite running at the front for much of the race.

Max Verstappen was part of the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 lineup alongside Dani Juncadella, Jules Gounon and Lucas Auer, with the quartet sharing driving duties across the demanding Nordschleife endurance race.

The team remained firmly in the lead group for long periods, with Verstappen completing several strong stints that kept the car in contention as the battle for victory developed through the 24-hour event.

A late mechanical issue then forced an extended stop in the pits, ending their fight at the front in the closing stages. Although the car later returned to the circuit, the time loss could not be recovered, and the #3 Mercedes ultimately finished 38th overall.

The 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours was won by the #80 Mercedes-AMG Team Winward entry, driven by Maro Engel, Luca Stolz, Fabian Schiller and Maxime Martin, who delivered a consistent run to secure overall victory after the setback for the sister #3 car reshaped the fight at the front.

“Very unfortunate and frustrating ending, but these things can happen,” stated Verstappen on social.

“I still really enjoyed the experience together with Jules, Luggi and Dani. Thanks to the team and everyone around the track for your support,” the 4-time F1 champion added.

Verstappen will return to Formula 1 action this weekend as the championship heads to Canada.
