Formula 1 continues its early-season European–American swing with the fifth round of the 2026 championship, as teams head to Montréal for the Canadian Grand Prix. The event once again features the Sprint format, making it back-to-back Sprint weekends following Miami.
After the opening four races of the season, attention now turns to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, where strategy and adaptability will be crucial due to the condensed schedule and limited practice running. With only one free practice session on Friday, teams will have to find performance quickly before competitive sessions begin.
The weekend also arrives with the championship battle finely poised. Kimi Antonelli leads the standings with a 20-point advantage over George Russell, while Mercedes is expected to introduce key upgrades in an effort to respond to McLaren, who showed strong form in Miami and significantly reduced the gap at the front of the field.
With development battles intensifying and momentum shifting between teams, Canada could play a key role in shaping the early trajectory of the 2026 title fight.
