Formula 1’s tyre supplier Pirelli has selected its softest available compounds for the next two rounds of the season. Teams will use the C3, C4 and C5 tyres in both Miami and Montreal, with circuit characteristics playing a key role in the decision.
Pirelli has announced that the softest tyres in its current range will be used for the upcoming Miami and Canadian Grands Prix. The C3, C4 and C5 compounds have been nominated for both events as the 2026 season prepares to resume after the unexpected spring break.
Formula 1 has not raced since Japan, with the calendar interrupted by the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix. Action will return at the start of May in Miami, before the championship heads to Canada two weeks later.
For the Miami weekend, Pirelli explained that the circuit’s smooth asphalt surface influences tyre behaviour, with wear expected to come mainly through overheating rather than surface abrasion. High temperatures in Florida are therefore expected to be one of the main challenges for teams.
The same tyre selection will then be used in Montreal. According to Pirelli, the decision was helped by a track surface that is relatively gentle on tyres, while the softer compounds should also provide the grip needed in heavy braking zones.
Last season, Canada featured the debut of the C6 compound, the softest tyre produced at the time. However, that tyre was removed from the range after the 2025 campaign, leaving the C5 as the softest option available this year.
