Formula 1 has confirmed a new multi-year agreement with Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya that will see the Spanish venue remain on the calendar in 2028, 2030 and 2032, alongside the previously scheduled 2026 race. From this year, the event will officially be known as the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

Under the new arrangement, Barcelona’s races will rotate with the Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, which is set to host Formula 1 in 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031.

The circuit, built in 1991 as part of the development programme for the 1992 Summer Olympics, has undergone significant upgrades in recent years. These include the construction of the Circuit Rooftop hospitality area overlooking Turns 9, 10 and 11, as well as the installation of solar panels across the venue.

In 2025, the race weekend attracted 300,000 fans, with Oscar Piastri taking victory ahead of team-mate Lando Norris. The track has delivered several memorable moments in Formula 1 history, including Max Verstappen’s maiden Grand Prix win in 2016. Current drivers who have also won in Barcelona include Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, welcomed the extension, highlighting the passion of the fans in Barcelona and the continued investment in improving both the circuit and the overall event experience.

In addition to on-track action, organisers have strengthened engagement with the city, hosting a fan festival at Plaça de Catalunya for the past two years, with the event set to return in 2026.
