Fabio Di Giannantonio took a surprise pole position at COTA after a dramatic qualifying session full of crashes and changing conditions. Several riders fought for the top spot, but it was Di Giannantonio who came out on top.
FP2
This 30-minute session worked as a warm-up before qualifying. During this session, the weather was cloudy, bringing slightly different conditions from yesterday. Maverick Viñales was confirmed to undergo an operation soon due to his shoulder pain, as one of the screws got loose, causing the discomfort.
The lap times initially ranged from 2:03 to 2:05. However, the tyre options were varied, as some riders chose a medium rear or soft tyre, with the front being either soft or medium.
After a short time, Francesco Bagnaia jumped into the lead and was also the first rider to break into the 2:02s, before six other riders joined him. Seven minutes into the session, Ai Ogura had a crash at Turn 20. The lead changed quickly, as Marco Bezzecchi took the lead and was the first to break into the 2:01s range. With 15 minutes into the session, the top 10 were as follows: Bezzecchi, Di Giannantonio, Bagnaia, Alex Márquez, Fernández, Bastianini, Acosta, Morbidelli, Marc Márquez, and Martín.
After a quick break in the pits, the riders returned to the track with 10 minutes left. Yamaha hadn’t found improvement, with their fastest rider being Toprak Razgatlioglu in 13th place. Meanwhile, Di Giannantonio continued to impress, being a contender for pole position in qualifying.
With 8 minutes left, Alex Márquez crashed out at Turn 2, and shortly after, Marco Bezzecchi also crashed. A lot was happening as the temperature was colder than yesterday.

As the session was nearing its end, Ai Ogura had his second crash, bringing out a yellow flag with barely 2 minutes left. Meanwhile, at the front, Jorge Martín took the lead from Marc Márquez, while Bagnaia improved to 3rd place.
With the chequered flag out, the riders were finishing their final attempts, but only Pedro Acosta was able to improve to 6th place.
