Fernando Alonso has confirmed the name of his first child, after becoming a father shortly before the Japanese Grand Prix weekend at Suzuka.

The Aston Martin driver and his partner, Spanish TV reporter Melissa Jiménez, welcomed their first child together, marking a significant personal milestone for the two-time world champion.

Until now, Alonso had kept details private, with neither the name nor the gender of the baby publicly known. That changed when he shared his son's F1 Paddock Pass on social media, revealing the name Leonard Alonso Jiménez, confirming that the couple have a son.

The news means Alonso has joined a growing group of fathers on the current Formula 1 grid. He becomes the fourth active driver to have a child, alongside Sergio Pérez, Nico Hülkenberg and Max Verstappen.

Despite the life-changing moment off track, Alonso continued his racing duties in Japan, where Aston Martin and Honda managed to complete a full race distance for the first time this season – a small but important step forward for the project.

The 44-year-old now combines his role as one of the most experienced drivers on the grid with a new chapter in his personal life.
