Franco Colapinto is expected to remain with Alpine for the 2026 Formula 1 season, with the team likely to announce the deal during the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos.

The Argentine driver took over Jack Doohan’s seat after the Miami Grand Prix earlier this year and has gradually established himself as a reliable member of the French team. Despite Alpine’s difficult season and the limited performance of its A525 car, Colapinto has shown steady improvement, reducing the gap to teammate Pierre Gasly and proving his consistency in recent races.

Although he has not yet scored points, his progress has earned praise within the team, and his commitment has convinced Alpine’s management that he deserves another season. Several international media outlets, including GPblog and RacingNews365, have reported that Alpine is preparing to confirm his contract renewal around the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Alpine sees Colapinto as a valuable asset not only for his performance on track but also for his connections to Latin American sponsors and fans. His growing popularity across the region has helped the team strengthen its commercial reach and attract additional support, making the Brazilian Grand Prix a fitting moment to announce the deal publicly. Last year, Interlagos saw a large turnout of Argentine supporters, and a similar atmosphere is expected when Colapinto is confirmed for 2026.

The extension of Colapinto’s contract also fits Alpine’s long-term strategy of stability in its driver line-up. Pierre Gasly has already extended his deal until the end of 2028, and keeping Colapinto ensures continuity as the team prepares for a major technical change in 2026. Alpine will switch to Mercedes engines, a move that has raised optimism within the squad after a difficult 2025 season. The team hopes the new power units will allow it to return to regular point-scoring positions and improve overall competitiveness.
