The Afternoon Practice session at the Red Bull Ring started under sunny weather, with the same track conditions as in the morning. The riders didn't waste time and went immediately on track. However, with just 2 minutes in, Jorge Martin caused a yellow flag with his crash at Turn 9, causing a few other riders to get their times deleted due to them violating track limits. But the ones who did put in measured times were around 1:30. However, Pedro Acosta was the first rider who put in a time in the range of 1:29s, with others quickly following behind.

As if the mistakes weren't enough, Raul Fernandez ran wide and almost collided with the barriers. The lead was held by Francesco Bagnaia, who put in a stunning lap time, yet that didn't last long, as moments later, Fabio Quartararo came in with the fastest lap. Meanwhile Martin rejoined the garage and went on track on his second bike. But not even Quartararo stayed in the lead too long, as Marc Marquez and Luca Marini all jumped ahead of him, with Bagnaia taking the lead back.

It was seen that many riders had problems with their bike doing a little wave. That happened to Bagnaia who was attempting another fast lap, but this wiggle move of his bike caused him to not only abandon the lap but also to run wide. So far the top ten looked as following: Bagnaia, Marini, Marc, Quartararo, Alex Marquez, Acosta, Morbidelli, Zarco, Enea Bastianini and Fermin Aldeguer.

Maverick Vinales was even in the afternoon session at the 21st place, while Quartararo continued to be number 1 Yamaha rider of the day. With 28 minutes in, Bagnaia continued to be in the lead with a time 1:29.161, but as it always is with this session, the times will get even faster at the end. Meanwhile Pedro Acosta ran wide at Turn 4, going through the gravel. Fermin Aldeguer improved from the 10th place to 6th, ahead of his teammate Alex. Yet, both Acosta and Quartararo started a good lap. But only Acosta improved, taking the lead, while Quartararo remained in the same position.

And with halfway of the session done, we had another yellow flag, this time caused by a crash from Fabio Quartararo at Turn 6. And at the same turn, just a few moments later, crashed Miguel Oliveira. He will be investigated for crashing under a yellow flag, and the race stewards red flagged the session, due to the air fence needing to be replaced.

The session was resumed and the riders made their way back on track. And the riders went straight into action. Raul Fernandez managed to improve to 3rd place. And Bastianini, who started an amazing lap, pushed too hard on the brakes and ran wide into the gravel, abandoning his attempt. But rookie Ai Ogura surprised everyone by taking the lead with a time 1:28.877, being the only rider in the time range of 1:28s. Meanwhile Joan Mir managed to improve his time and moved to 3rd place, before Ogura finished his lap.

However, one notable thing was that both Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller were outside the top 15 in both sessions. Meanwhile at the top, Morbidelli started a decent lap that put him in 2nd place. Yet Zarco started an even better lap and moved to 1st place with a time 1:28.765. Meanwhile both Bagnaia and Morbidelli climbed going to 2nd and 3rd. While Marc was in 12th place, only for a moment, before he moved to 2nd and Acosta improved to 1st. Meanwhile Alex was holding in 9th place with Raul Fernandez behind him, rounding out the top 10.

Meanwhile, Acosta was braking hard into Turn 4 and ran wide. And so with 4 minutes left, we were getting the final battles. Alex improved and moved to 4th place behind his brother. Meanwhile Marc started an incredible lap which moved him to 1st place, with a time 1:28.117. While Aldeguer moved to 7th place. Bezzecchi who was pushing made a mistake and ran into the gravel, forcing him to abandon his attempt. Also Jorge Martin made a mistake and ran wide.

In the final attempts, Quartararo who was trying his best to improve managed to get only to 14th place, while Bagnaia and Alex also weren't able to improve. The top 10, that has a direct entry to Q2, ended as following: Marc, Acosta, Bagnaia, Alex, Fernandez, Mir, Morbidelli, Zarco, Aldeguer and Binder. Marc ended the session with running out of fuel in the middle of the track.
