MotoGP is back in the Czech Republic, and the first free practice session brought chaos, comebacks, and changing conditions! With a damp track, light rain, and riders pushing to the limit, we saw crashes, yellow flags, and non-stop lead changes. Marc Marquez made a dramatic return despite early technical issues, while Jack Miller and Fabio Quartararo lit up the timing sheets. The mixed weather didn’t slow the action one bit, and this was just the start!
MotoGP made its return to the Czech Republic, and the first free practice started there in mixed conditions. The track was still damp from the rain, but it was already drying up. The riders as well went immediately on track to adapt to its layout. It didn’t take long, and we had 2 yellow flags in the first two minutes. One was caused by a crash of Aprilia, while the other was caused by Marc Marquez, who had technical difficulties with his bike. The times started in a time range of 2.9 to 2.7. But to make it harder, it was still lightly raining during the start of the practice. And even though Morbidelli didn’t participate due to injury, he still went to Brno to be there with his team.

After 10 minutes of practice, the lead looked as follows: Francesco Bagnaia, Fermin Aldeguer, Joan Mir, Johann Zarco, and Miguel Oliveira. But the times started improving in the time range of 2.7s, and the first place was held by many riders, like Zarco or Brad Binder. Jorge Martin, who made his official return after a long break due to injury, was still trying to adapt to his bike. He was holding on to 9th place, which was a good result for his first practice.
As the session neared the half mark, the riders started to return on track. And with new tyres, the riders returned to put in faster times. Jack Miller showed this perfectly, as he almost grabbed the first place, yet in the end, it wasn’t enough and he ended 2nd. Behind him we had Bagnaia and his teammate Marc Marquez riding behind each other, yet before the end, only one of them finished the lap. Jack Miller continued in his impressive performance, and he took the lead of the session in the next lap. It was clear that he is confident with the tyres and the track. Right behind him in second was Pol Espargaro, who was here to step in for Maverick Vinales. So far, Yamaha looked fast on track, which the result only confirmed, as the top 2 was formed by Fabio Quartararo in first and Miller in second place.

With 11 minutes left of the session, there was a yellow flag that was caused by Ai Ogura, who crashed out. The track was already drying up, and the times were much faster than at the start of the session, with a time range going from 2:00 to 1:57s. During the session, we had records dropping, as Quartararo had a time of 1:56.783 on a track that was still not fully dry. But he didn’t stay in the lead for long, as Espargaro took the lead from him. The riders were getting faster and getting closer to dipping into the time range of 1:55. With 3 minutes left, the lead was held by Marc Marquez, who made a comeback after struggling with technical issues. And the action didn’t end there. Marc managed to improve his time even more to the time range of 1:55. Yet the lead was taken from Marc by Miller.
A massive SPINNING crash for @AiOgura79 😱😱😱

Great to see he's walking away from it (also with the fairing in his hand) 👍😅#CzechGP 🇨🇿 pic.twitter.com/KB5PkzcpxJ
The session ended with the lead looking like this: Marc, Miller, Bagnaia making the top 3. From this session, it was clear that with dry tyres, the riders were fast, and in the afternoon practice, the fans are in for a treat.
