Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali urges fans to be patient over a possible continuation of the F1 movie, stressing quality and realism are key.
Hollywood’s F1 movie starring Brad Pitt has become a worldwide sensation, earning over $600 million and capturing the imagination of fans across America and beyond. Its success has sparked talk of a continuation, but Formula 1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali is urging patience. Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after the 2025 season, he said, “We’re working on a plan, but it will not come too soon. The first film needs time to be fully appreciated.”
Domenicali made it clear that any follow-up must be true to the sport. “The next movie has to be credible, authentic and new,” he explained. The first film, together with Netflix’s Drive to Survive, has been widely credited with helping Formula 1 grow in North America. Domenicali wants to make sure the excitement generated by the original movie is not rushed or diluted by a sequel. “There will be a longer effect of the first movie,” he added.
The 2025 season itself ended in dramatic fashion, with the drivers’ championship decided in the final race in Abu Dhabi. Domenicali described the season as “amazing, an amazing season,” noting that three drivers competed right to the very end. He said watching the competitors fight for the title was “just amazing” and highlighted the growth of the sport, the arrival of new fans, and the increasing interest from commercial partners who understand Formula 1’s value.
He also praised young champion Lando Norris, describing him as “very positive, younger, energetic” and a role model for modern fans. “They are a unique talent,” Domenicali said, pointing out that younger drivers like Norris can connect with the new generation of F1 enthusiasts.
Looking ahead, Formula 1 continues its expansion in the United States, with Cadillac joining as a new team in 2026. Domenicali describes this development as “a game for big boys” and sees it as part of the sport’s broader growth. He believes that allowing the F1 movie franchise time to “breathe” will strengthen its long-term impact, rather than rushing into a sequel and potentially weakening its appeal.
