Aprilia is already working on its future MotoGP bike for the new 850cc rules. The Italian team plans to test its first prototype on track at the start of spring.
Aprilia is getting ready for the future of MotoGP. The Italian company says its new 850cc bike should go on track for the first time at the start of spring.
Fabiano Sterlacchini, Aprilia’s technical director, shared this news during the team’s launch event. He explained that the new engine is already running on a test bench. Right now, the team is checking reliability and learning how the engine behaves.
The first full prototype bike is already built, but it is still in a testing phase. Aprilia wants to be careful and make sure everything works correctly before riding it on track.
Sterlacchini said the project is difficult, but the team feels ready.
He also said the biggest unknown part is not the bike or the engine, but the tyres. From 2027, MotoGP will use Pirelli tyres instead of Michelin. This change could affect how the bikes perform, so teams will need time to understand them.
However, Sterlacchini believes this change is also a good chance for teams to improve. He thinks companies that already fight for podiums can also do a great job in the new era.
Aprilia believes its strength is being fast to react. According to Sterlacchini, Italian and European companies are good at working in difficult and confusing situations. He sees this as an advantage, not a problem.
Last season, Aprilia finished second in the MotoGP constructors’ championship, behind Ducati. This shows the team is already very strong.
Even so, Aprilia has not yet signed any riders for the 2027 season, when the 850cc rules will begin.
Aprilia is not alone in this. Ducati and Yamaha have also not put their 850cc bikes on track yet. All three factories are still in the early stages of development.
The next few months will be very important. Fans will be watching closely to see how these new MotoGP bikes perform when they finally hit the circuit.
