LCR MotoGP is likely to continue its partnership with Honda through 2027, as reports confirm the team’s deal with the Japanese manufacturer. This comes as MotoGP is set to enter a new era with significant rule changes, including new engine specifications and technical restrictions.

The LCR team will keep working with Honda even in the new MotoGP era that starts in 2027, all according to news from Italy.

The LCR, run by Lucio Cecchinello, has been in MotoGP since 2006. The team first worked with Honda that year, and they also had a young star, Casey Stoner. Since then, they have stayed loyal to Honda.

The team has had success with Honda, as they managed to win races in 2016 and 2018 with Cal Crutchlow, and again in 2023 with Alex Rins.

In 2025, after five races, Johann Zarco is one of the best current Honda riders. He is in 7th place in the championship standings and has often been the fastest Honda rider this season.

Cecchinello told Italian website GPOne that LCR extended their deal with Honda until the end of 2026. They also have a deal for 2027, but it all depends on MotoGP organizers agreeing to let LCR join the next contract period.

“Our contract with Honda ended in 2024, but we already signed again last winter for 2025 and 2026,” Cecchinello said to GPOne. “We also have a deal for 2027, but we must wait for Dorna to accept LCR into the new MotoGP cycle.”

MotoGP teams must sign a contract with Dorna to be a part of the championship. These contracts usually last five years. The current contract for LCR ends in 2026.

So from 2027, MotoGP will start a new era with different rules, such as 850cc engines, simpler aerodynamics, and ride height devices being banned.

So LCR hopes that the new rules will help them become strong title challengers once again. They had a tough few years, but things are already looking better for them.
