Free Practice 1 at Silverstone kicked off under sunny weather, but without Fabio Quartararo, who was banned for the first 10 minutes of the session due to a penalty from Le Mans.

In the first five minutes, riders went out for warm-up laps. As the times started to come in, Johann Zarco initially took the lead, followed by Marc Márquez in second and Pedro Acosta in third. However, that didn’t last long, as Marco Bezzecchi soon moved to the top and became the first rider to break into the 1:59s. Marc Márquez followed him just seconds later.

A surprise came from Jack Miller, who climbed into third place, before Bezzecchi retook the lead with Marc moving into second. Bagnaia was also having a solid session, running in fifth place. Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo started getting ready as the timer approached the 10 minute mark.

With 13 minutes done, Marc Márquez was in the lead while half of the grid returned to the pits. Alex Márquez moved into second place behind his brother, and Luca Marini climbed up to seventh. Fabio Quartararo used the relative emptiness on track to warm up and improve his lap times.

As the session reached its halfway point, riders began returning to the track. Quartararo improved to seventh. So far, Maverick Viñales and Enea Bastianini had not managed to crack the top 10. However, with 21 minutes to go, Quartararo jumped to fourth, and Márquez broke into the 1:58s. Viñales also managed to move into the top 10.

Johann Zarco, who had a strong start, fell outside the top 10. The standings shifted again as Fermín Aldeguer moved up to seventh, although overall, the top positions remained largely unchanged. With 13 minutes remaining, most of the riders returned to the pits.

Pedro Acosta, who was leading earlier, dropped to 15th and couldn’t improve. Somkiat Chantra stayed in last place, just behind Aleix Espargaró. Times were  significantly different, with the gap between first and last being over three seconds.

With 10 minutes left, all riders returned to the track for a final push. Positions remained mostly stable. Fabio Di Giannantonio outperformed his teammate Franco Morbidelli, while Viñales ended as the best KTM rider of the session. Morbidelli later improved to seventh, pushing his teammate outside the top 10.

With one minute remaining, the session saw its first yellow flag, caused by Ai Ogura crashing at Turn 2. Morbidelli impressively improved to second place, while Acosta climbed back to 10th.
