Rumours about BMW joining MotoGP have been around for many years. While social media often fuels speculation, the real situation is more complex. Facts suggest BMW remains focused elsewhere, at least for now.

For more than ten years, people have talked about BMW possibly joining MotoGP. These rumours often appear on social media, but they must be treated carefully. Social networks are full of mistakes and manipulation, so journalists must always check facts and think critically.

The rumours became louder after Suzuki left MotoGP in 2022. They appeared again when MotoGP announced big rule changes for 2027, including new 850cc engines. Some fans believe this could be a good chance for a new manufacturer to enter the sport.

However, KTM and Honda already have 850cc prototype bikes on track. This shows that their projects are very advanced. Because of this, it would be extremely difficult for BMW to start from zero and be ready for the 2027 season. Building a MotoGP bike takes many years, a lot of money, and strong technical teams.

What is certain is that BMW is fully focused on the World Superbike Championship. The company has raced there for more than a decade and is now one of the strongest manufacturers. BMW wants to continue this success and fight for more titles rather than starting a risky new project.

Miguel Oliveira, a MotoGP race winner, was asked about BMW and MotoGP near the end of his time in the premier class. He said clearly that he does not know BMW’s future plans. He explained that BMW is committed to WorldSBK and expects this focus to continue at least until 2027.

Oliveira also said that, in theory, moving to MotoGP could feel like a natural step for BMW. The brand is well established and very competitive in WorldSBK. Still, he stressed that such a move depends on many factors and should not be assumed. He added that he would personally like to see BMW in MotoGP one day.

MotoGP will also change tyre supplier in 2027, moving from Michelin to Pirelli. Pirelli already supplies WorldSBK, so riders racing there will gain experience with these tyres. This could be useful in the future.

Toprak Razgatlioglu will move to MotoGP with Pramac Yamaha. In his first season, he will race on Michelin tyres before the switch to Pirelli happens.

At the moment, there is no official confirmation that BMW plans to enter MotoGP. There is no public project and no clear timeline. For now, BMW’s main goal is success in WorldSBK, and all MotoGP talk remains speculation rather than fact.
