Even though Kimi Antonelli got on the track first for his last attempt no one was faster. His teammate George Russell struggled the whole session and lined up only fourth after he crashed in Q1. The Ferraris had a successful Qualifying as Charles Leclerc will complete the front row with Lewis Hamilton on the third.

Q1

Ferrari waited with their Q1 appearance. Carlos Sainz had a moment during his first fast lap, so his time wasn’t representative. With 10 minutes remaining the Ferraris were on the top but there were only eight car which had a time set.  By this time there was a yellow flag in Turn 7 as George Russell crashed his Mercedes. He eventually got out of the gravel with a broken front wing.

With seven minutes remaining Russell and Gabriel Bortoleto still didn’t have any time set. Liam Lawson managed to get out of the elimination zone and lined up provisionally fifth, right behind his teammate Arvid Lindblad. After two minutes Russell got on the track to drive his first fast lap of the session. He lined up provisionally fifth. With one minute remaining Isack Hadjar topped the standings with his teammate Max Verstappen running on the third. By this time there was a yellow flag as Franco Colapinto went off track.

Carlos Sainz, running 16th, managed to improve and he lined up 13th as the session came to an end. Gabriel Bortoleto also improved and lined up 12th.

Eliminated in Q1: Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas, Franco Colapinto, Sergio Perez, Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso

Q2

Before this part started the marshals cleaned up the track after Russell got out of the gravel. The Red Bulls were the first ones on the track and Verstappen reported on the radio that his engine is not responding normally. As everybody drove their first fast laps of this part Hamilton got on top with Russell and Leclerc behind. With eight minutes left Antonelli had a moment in Turn 3 and he aborted his lap. His next attempt was successful, he lined up third behind his teammate.

With five minutes remaining all drivers returned on the track to do another fast laps on new fresh set of soft tires. Lando Norris improved from the 12th position on the nineth. Leclerc also improved and got on the top, leaving his teammate and the Mercedeses behind. Nico Hulkenberg also improved but it got him only on the 12th position. Neither the Williams couldn’t get out of the elimination zone.

Eliminated in Q2: Gabriel Bortoleto, Pierre Gasly, Nico Hulkenberg, Oliver Bearman, Carlos Sainz, Alexander Albon

Q3

As the final part started all teams were waiting with their appearance. The McLarens were the first ones on the track followed by the Ferraris and Verstappen. When the drivers completed their first fast attempts, the Mercedes lined up in front with the Ferraris and Red Bulls behind. Everybody did their first attempts on new fresh set of soft tires. Racing Bulls were doing only one fast attempt so they didn’t have any time set with four minutes remaining.

Antonelli was the first one on the track for the next fast lap which he complained about on the radio. He got on provisional pole as he improved his time, Russell lined up behind. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were faster than the Briton but no one could beat Antonelli’s lap as he took pole position ahead of Leclerc and Hamilton.
