Pirelli’s latest Formula 1 tyre testing programme continued this week at the Hungaroring, just days after the Hungarian Grand Prix. The test is part of preparations for the 2026 season, with Alpine, McLaren, and Racing Bulls all taking part. Teams were running special versions of their cars to fit the new, narrower tyres being developed for the future regulations.

Alpine driver Franco Colapinto was behind the wheel on the second day of testing, driving a modified A525. Unfortunately, his session ended early after he crashed heavily in the final sector of the circuit, at the fast Turn 11. The team later confirmed that Colapinto was taken to the medical centre for checks but was not injured.

It’s another difficult moment for the young Argentinian, who has found it hard to match his teammate Pierre Gasly since stepping in for Jack Doohan earlier this season. Colapinto joined Alpine’s race line-up at Imola and has yet to score any points. All of the team’s points so far have come from Gasly, with Alpine sitting at the bottom of the constructors’ standings.

During the tyre test, Alpine’s reserve driver Paul Aron set the fastest time of the day, completing 159 laps. He was followed by Lando Norris and Liam Lawson, with Pirelli testing prototype versions of its C3, C4 and C5 compounds.
