FP3 proved to be a tricky session, with the track slowly drying and rain still threatening to return. Drivers struggled for grip early on, and the order changed constantly as conditions improved. In the end, George Russell set the fastest time, finishing ahead of Max Verstappen and Alex Albon after a busy and unpredictable final practice.
The FP3 session started with some drivers going on track, one of the first being Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton. They started with intermediate tyres as the track was still wet from rain, and with the sun set, the weather was getting much cooler.
Piastri was the first driver to put in a 1:47.162 lap, so far being in the lead. He reported to his team over the radio that the intermediate tyres are already going off, but he is nervous about the slicks yet.
The track was slippery and the cars were struggling with grip, often sliding in the corners. Piastri improved his time, going into the 1:46s time range, being ahead of his teammate Norris. But Hamilton took the lead and was the first driver to get into the 1:45s time range.
With 10 minutes in, half of the grid were still in the pits and there was also the first yellow flag. It was caused by Alex Albon going out into the run-off area at Turn 5. Joining Hamilton was Max Verstappen, who improved his time and jumped to 2nd place ahead of the McLaren duo.

The track was getting drier with each lap as the times improved. While Norris jumped to 3rd place, Piastri took the lead and was the first driver to be in the 1:43s. Meanwhile, Sainz radioed his team saying the track is nearly ready for slick tyres, while the Mercedes duo finally came out of the pits.
The positions looked as follows: Norris, Hamilton, Piastri, Hadjar, Verstappen, Russell, Albon, Tsunoda, Sainz, Leclerc, Lawson, Ocon, Antonelli. Norris was on top with a 1:43.079.
Meanwhile, Hamilton improved and went to the top of the session with a time of 1:42.809, ahead of the McLaren duo. Meanwhile, Tsunoda was told by his team that he needed to return to the pits with an issue.
George Russell split the McLaren duo by going into 3rd place. While Hamilton topped the session, his teammate Leclerc was down in 9th place, seeming to struggle and sliding into corners.
As the session neared its half, some drivers still hadn’t left the pits as they were waiting to see the conditions. While the track became dry in some parts, it was still too wet in other sections, making it too dry for intermediate tyres yet too wet for slick tyres. After all, Lance Stroll was the first driver to go out on softs, yet he immediately returned to the pits, abandoning his attempt.
To dramatise the practice session, there was rain on the way. Yet it was still unsure if it would arrive in time for the end of FP3. But what is important to note is that it could make the track wet again before qualifying.
While Hamilton remained leading the session, Antonelli improved to 2nd place, joining him in the 1:42s time range. Meanwhile, Norris took a gamble on slick tyres, yet he was too far off the tempo. It was also reported that rain was expected in the upcoming 3 minutes.
Joining Norris on slicks were Piastri, Hamilton, Verstappen, Hadjar, Leclerc and Lawson. However, the drivers out on slicks were miles off their pace. Hamilton, with the fastest second sector, almost crashed into drivers going slowly at the end of the long straight.
That was a CLOSE ONE! 😱

With 40 minutes in, Leclerc was on top with a 1:41.867, while Tsunoda was in 2nd place. Both set their times on soft tyres. Joining Tsunoda was Verstappen, who improved to 3rd place. With the track drying up more, the times improved even more. Verstappen was in the lead of the session with a time of 1:39.159, with Lawson being over 2 seconds behind him. Yet Tsunoda again jumped ahead of his teammate, taking the lead in the 1:38s.
The Red Bull duo didn’t stay there for long, as Leclerc took the lead, being over 0.645s ahead of Tsunoda. A short time later, Hamilton returned to the lead of the session, being the first driver to be in the 1:37s time range, being over 0.936 ahead of his teammate.
While the track was drying up, the radars were still showing rain incoming, yet it started to look as if it would just drift around the circuit.
Going on top of the session was Verstappen, being the first to be in the 1:36s time range. With 15 minutes left, the top 10 looked as follows: Verstappen, Tsunoda, Hamilton, Russell, Hadjar, Leclerc, Bearman, Colapinto, Sainz, Norris.
However, Hamilton was back on top of the session, with his teammate right behind. Yet that wasn’t for long before Verstappen retook the lead, being in the 1:35s. Worth mentioning were Williams, who now had both drivers in the top 10.
Piastri, who was sitting down the order in 19th place, was still off the tempo, improving only one place. The times were improving even more as the racing line rubbered in. In this session, the teams fueled their cars and left them out on track so the drivers could experience the conditions and work on their braking points.
Meanwhile, Russell improved to 2nd place, only 0.088s behind Verstappen. Norris had to abandon his flying attempt and returned to the pits, as his car was not safe electrically.
With 3 minutes left, the top 10 looked as follows: Albon, Russell, Alonso, Lawson, Verstappen, Brotoleto, Leclerc, Hadjar, Hamilton. The times got faster and the drivers were very close to each other. Verstappen took back the lead of the session, being over 0.594s ahead of Albon.
With the chequered flag out, the drivers were finishing their last attempts. Taking the lead at the end was George Russell, who was 0.277s ahead of Verstappen, while Albon finished the session in 3rd place.
