The FIA has confirmed a package of sporting regulation changes for 2026, approved during the final meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC).

The WMSC signed off a series of adjustments designed to simplify procedures, refine Sprint weekends and prepare the sport for the next-generation cars arriving in 2026.

One of the most notable changes concerns Sprint weekends. Teams currently have only one practice session, and any red flag eats into that limited track time. From 2026, FP1 at Sprint events may be extended if interrupted, ensuring drivers and engineers still receive a meaningful window for preparation.

The WMSC also confirmed that Formula 1 will move to a single pre-season test again from 2027. Tyre rules in Sprint Qualifying will remain unchanged even when wet conditions are declared, keeping the current structure intact.

Updates to out-of-competition tyre testing reflect the technical shift coming in 2026, with specifications now aligned to the new generation of cars.

To accommodate the increasing operational demands, each team may field up to 60 trackside personnel during the race weekend.

The FIA will also simplify race suspension and restart procedures to make operations clearer for teams and spectators.

These changes form part of the broader transformation awaiting Formula 1 in 2026, when new chassis and power unit regulations come into force.
